How It Works

Getting expert veterinary advice has never been easier. No long drives, no waiting rooms — just real care delivered straight to your farm or home.

Four Steps from Concern to Care Plan

Every consultation follows the same straightforward process, designed to get your animal the help they need as quickly and effectively as possible.

1

Create an Account & Share Your Concern

Start by creating a free account on our secure portal. From there, tell us what's going on — describe the symptoms you've observed, when they started, and anything that seems unusual about your animal's behavior, appetite, or movement.

The more detail you can provide upfront, the more productive your consultation will be. You'll also enter basic information about your animal including species, breed, age, and any known medical history.

  • Create a free account in under 2 minutes
  • Describe symptoms in your own words
  • Include photos or short videos if available
  • Note any medications or treatments already tried
2

Book Your Video Consultation

Choose a time that works for your schedule. Appointments are available Monday through Friday from 5:30 PM to 11:00 PM EST, and Saturday & Sunday from 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM EST — built around the reality of farm life and work schedules.

You'll receive a secure video link by email. No special software required — the consultation runs directly in your browser on any phone, tablet, or computer.

  • Available evenings & weekends — 7 days a week
  • Works on any device with a camera
  • Secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform
  • Flat fee of $60 — paid securely at booking
3

Live Video Examination with Dr. McMillen

At your appointment time, Dr. McMillen joins you via live video. Your animal must be present and visible during the call so she can perform a thorough observational examination — assessing gait, posture, body condition, eye clarity, coat or coat condition, respiration, and more.

Dr. McMillen will ask follow-up questions and may guide you through showing specific areas of the animal more clearly. She brings years of large and small animal experience to every single appointment.

  • Your animal must be present and visible
  • Good lighting and a calm environment helps
  • Dr. McMillen observes movement, posture, and physical signs
  • Interactive — she'll guide you through what to show her
4

Receive Your Diagnosis & Care Plan

Based on her examination, Dr. McMillen will provide you with a professional assessment including differential diagnoses, a detailed treatment plan, and recommendations for next steps. If a prescription is warranted and appropriate for telemedicine, it will be issued electronically.

You'll also receive guidance on what to monitor and clear instructions for when an in-person visit would be necessary. No guesswork — just clear, actionable direction from a licensed Florida veterinarian.

  • Differential diagnoses explained clearly
  • Detailed, step-by-step treatment plan
  • Prescriptions issued electronically when appropriate
  • Guidance on red flags requiring in-person follow-up

Tips for the Best Consultation

A little preparation goes a long way toward getting the most out of your appointment.

💡

Good Lighting Matters

Try to be in a well-lit area — natural outdoor light is ideal. Dark barns or dimly lit stalls make it much harder for Dr. McMillen to observe your animal clearly.

📱

Have a Helper If Possible

For large animals especially, having one person hold the camera while another manages the animal makes the examination go much more smoothly.

📝

Write Down Your Questions

Jot down every question you want to ask before the call so you don't forget anything in the moment. There's no rushing — we want you to feel fully informed.

🗂️

Gather Your Animal's History

Know your animal's approximate age, current medications, vaccination status, and any prior health issues. This helps Dr. McMillen make the most accurate assessment possible.

🎥

Video Before the Call Helps

If your animal is only showing symptoms intermittently (like limping), try to capture a short video beforehand so Dr. McMillen can see even if the animal isn't showing signs during the call.

🌐

Stable Internet Connection

A strong WiFi or cellular signal ensures the video call stays clear. If you're in a remote area, consider using a phone with cellular data rather than relying on barn WiFi.

Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions? Here are the ones we hear most often.

Is telemedicine a real vet visit?

Yes. Dr. McMillen is a licensed Florida veterinarian and performs a professional observational examination during each consultation. While some things require a hands-on in-person visit, a vast majority of concerns can be assessed, diagnosed, and treated via telemedicine — especially when caught early.

Can prescriptions actually be issued through telemedicine?

In many cases, yes. Under Florida law and with an established veterinarian-client-patient relationship (VCPR), prescriptions including certain heartworm preventatives, flea and tick products, and other medications can be issued electronically. A telemedicine/heartworm test waiver may be required in some cases.

What if my animal needs an in-person visit?

Dr. McMillen will let you know clearly if your animal's condition requires in-person care. In those cases, she'll provide guidance on the urgency and help you understand what to tell a local vet. Your $60 consultation is never wasted — you'll leave with a much clearer picture of what's going on.

How long does a consultation last?

Consultations are approximately 10 minutes — focused and efficient. If additional time is needed to fully address your concern, Dr. McMillen will work through it with you. The goal is for you to leave with clarity, not to rush you off the call.

What species can be seen via telemedicine?

Dr. McMillen sees horses, cattle, donkeys, pigs, goats, sheep, llamas, chickens, dogs, and cats. If you have a species not listed, reach out — she may still be able to help or point you in the right direction.

What if I need to reschedule?

Life on a farm doesn't always go according to plan. You can reschedule through your dashboard up to a reasonable time before your appointment. Contact us if you run into any issues and we'll do our best to accommodate you.
